What is CNC Turning

CNC turning is a subtractive manufacturing process that rotates a metal rod while a cutting tool is held against the stock to remove material and create final parts. At our factory, CNC lathes are also equipped with live tooling that can machine flat features and holes into the workpiece. Outside diameter (OD) and inside diameter (ID) threading is also available.

Turned parts can then be left as-machined, with visible tool marks, or bead blasted, Anodizing, Black oxide.

How does CNC turning works?

5 easy steps for making the CNC turned parts

1. Get the G-code file ready( from the 3D file)

2. Load the material: A blank bar of plastics or metals

3. Use the Chuk holds the workpiece in place while the spindle spins

4. When the spindle is up to speed, a stationary cutting tool is brought into contact with the workpiece to remove material until the desired geometry is achieved.

5. When all machining operations are completed the part will be cut from the stock for further surface finishes.

What metals can be machined by CNC router?

Aluminum

Aluminum is considered to be the most popular and cost-effective metal when it comes to CNC Machining. This is because it has high machinability, lightweight but strong.

Al6061 is an economical grade that offers fantastic workability and machinability. It is seen as a general-purpose grade material.

Stainless Steel

Whilst it does not have the same high machinability as Aluminum, stainless steel still does maintain good machinability. More robust and with more chemical resistance than Aluminum makes, it is also a trendy material in CNC machining services.

SS304 and SS306 grades are the two most commonly used ones.

Alloy Steel

Alloy steel is a low alloy steel that contains manganese, chromium, and molybdenum. It has high fatigue strength toughness, and impact resistance properties, making it an attractive alloy for many applications and industries. This alloy is more cost-effective compared to stainless steel.

Titanium

As the most expensive metal in the CNC metals family. Titanium…

How to select the right CNC plastics?

ABS is one of the most common thermoplastic materials offering good mechanical properties, excellent impact strength, high heat resistance and good machinability.

Polycarbonate is a thermoplastic with high toughness, good machinability and excellent impact strength (better than ABS). It can be colored, but typically it is optically transparent, making it ideal for a wide range of applications, including fluidic devices or automotive glazing.

POM is commonly known with the commercial name Delrin, and it is an engineering thermoplastic with the highest machinability among plastics.

POM (Delrin) is often the best choice when CNC machining plastic parts that require high precision, high stiffness, low friction, excellent dimensional stability at elevated temperatures, and very low water absorption.
